“We approached JD Kitchens because we wanted something completely bespoke, and something that suited the style of our slightly quirky Georgian/Victorian property. JD’s designs and concept were both practical and fully in keeping with our ideas, and the aesthetic of the house”.
The brief
The customer had a kitchen which had been extended a number of times over the years, resulting in a disjointed working space and nowhere for the family to congregate and enjoy spending time together.
Our clients love cooking and had several appliances/pieces of equipment that they wanted to be easily accessible in the kitchen, but not necessarily on show all of the time. Designer Cass came up with the solution to house the appliances in black tambour units. As a result, appliances such as the microwave, coffee machine, blender and toaster are now plugged in and ready to go, but can be quickly tidied away when they’re not needed via simple pull down back lit doors.
The clients selected their doors based on the style of their home, and the colours that they loved. High ceilings and a flood of light from the adjoining conservatory meant that they could afford to add drama to their living kitchen. Steel Dark effect Targa doors and Cortina doors in Titanium Steel by Schuller work in tandem. Using two types of finish provided a level of texture and depth to the large open plan kitchen, and the black glass cupboard doors offered a further textural contrast to the materials used. Even the Quooker Cube black tap was designed to complement the dramatic space. Attention to detail extended to the black light switches, ceiling lights and a pop up socket in the large central island.
Being keen cooks and bakers, our clients decided on all Neff appliances, from the Slide and Hide Pyrolitic (self-cleaning) oven with warming drawer to a wifi controlled flexinduction hob.
“Cass thinks of everything, including how tall you are, so that she can design the ovens to go in at the right height. It’s the small things that make the biggest difference.
We were drawn to JD Kitchens as they’re a family business, not a soulless corporate, and we’re glad that we chose them. It took six months for us to get everything just right, and I don’t think a large chain would have afforded us the same patience and worked so closely with us to create a joint vision. A new kitchen is a significant investment, and JD allowed us to take the time to plan, and to ensure that we had everything just right.”
“On a job this big, snags are expected. We were delighted that they were sorted and resolved quickly and without fuss. They’ve done exactly what they said they would do, and there were no hidden charges, another tick in the box!”
“They’re responsive. They call you back, there’s nothing worse than being ignored!”
